The importance of physiotherapy for women’s health can be life changing as many women are unaware that physiotherapy can help relieve them of prolonged pain both during pregnancy and after giving birth.
Why do we need physiotherapy in pregnancy and beyond?
A woman’s body goes through so many changes during and after pregnancy. This is due to our muscles and bones moving to accommodate growing and birthing a baby.
During pregnancy, women can experience severe pain in their upper and lower back, pubic area and joints which can really affect the ability to move around normally and enjoy day to day life.
After birthing a baby, women can be left with Diastasis Recti, a condition where the abdominal muscles remain separated. Breastfeeding, prolapse as well as carrying prams and car seats can also contribute to increased pain.
How can Physiotherapy help?
Physiotherapy can help with the following:
– Pelvic Girdle Pain
– Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
– Prolapse
– Urinary Incontinence
– Pre and Post Gynaecological Surgery
– General Pelvic Pain
– Diastasis Recti
– Upper and Lower Back Pain
– Breastfeeding
– Poor Posture
– Other Muscle, Musculoskeletal and Joint Pain

Reflexology for fertility and pregnancy is a complementary therapy that is becoming more and more popular as women seek holistic ways to fall pregnant and combat symptoms of pregnancy.
And here at Expectancy Scanning Studios, we are proud to announce our partnership with Jodie Purcell from Jodie Purcell Therapies to offer her services here at our clinic in Sittingbourne, Kent!
Jodie is an accredited Holistic Therapist and has been practicing reflexology for fertility and pregnancy clients since 2018.
And the journey from fertility support to pregnancy can be particularly stressful both on the body and mind, physically and emotionally. Likewise, complementary and holistic treatments are not only a great method of self care but can also help bring the mind, body and soul back into balance to improve overall physical and mental wellbeing.
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a non invasive touch therapy that uses the thumb and finger to put gentle pressure on parts of the feet called ‘reflexes’. These reflexes are linked to our body’s organs and emotional health. As a result of applying pressure to these reflexes and stimulating the specific reflex points, it can encourage the body to rebalance and improve overall health and wellbeing.
As well as reflexology for fertility and pregnancy, Jodie offers holistic facials and massages to help treat a wide range of symptoms including:
- Acne/Eczema/Psoriasis
- Anxiety/Depression
- Auto-immune conditions
- Constipation/IBS
- Hormonal Imbalances
- Insomnia
- Migraines/Headaches
- Muscular Pains & Tension
- Post-Natal symptoms
- Sinus Issues
- Stress
If you struggle with any of the above, please don’t hesitate to get in touch to see if Jodie can help you. As well as her treatments, she also has a number of products to use for self care at home along with some lovely gift ideas too!
Jodie will be at our clinic every Thursday between 2pm and 8pm. She can’t wait to meet you!
Disclaimer: While every complementary therapy has its benefits, it’s important to understand that all treatments should be served as an addition to standard maternity care. We do not recommend any holistic treatments take place in the first trimester of pregnancy (between 0-12 weeks).
